Staff Research
Research is an important part of Beauchamp culture. Staff and students have the opportunity to become involved in research during their time at the college. Whilst for students this may be more informal, for staff this tends to be as part of their CPD.
The College, through the Leading Edge Partnership, are currently working with the University of Warwick to deliver the MA in Educational Leadership and Innovation. This partnership is currently in its final year.
We are now working with the University of Nottingham to deliver the MA in Educational Leadership and Management to staff. The purpose of both MA’s is intended to enable participants to develop and improve their abilities as educational leaders and innovators. They will also enhance the reflective and critical capacities of students. Staff study part-time, over a three year period, attending sessions at the relevant University, but also at Beauchamp, through a series of seminars and one to one tutorials.
The modules include:
- Planning Practice Based Enquiry
- Conducting and Evaluating Practice Based Enquiry
- Effective Leadership and Change in Education
- Issues for Educational Leadership
- 20,000 word professional project
There are currently over 25 staff, teaching and associate, undertaking this programme. Whilst staff are free to determine their research topics themselves, we endeavour to ensure that these topics are linked into the Corporate Goals of the college for the academic year. Currently research topics include; the impact of the extended college day, vertical tutoring, learning styles and Community Cohesion.
If you are a member of staff and would like to see examples of current and previous assignments please sign in to the portal.
David Middlewood, the lead lecturer on the MA in Educational Leadership and Management through Warwick University, also holds the position of Researcher in Residence at Beauchamp. In this capacity David is on hand to give advice and support to staff and students undertaking research at the college.
Through their research staff are in a position to make recommendations to the college leadership team to suggest ways of improving learning and teaching at the college. It is a particular aim of the college this year to ensure that these recommendations are implemented where possible. If you are a current or newly appointed member of staff and would like to find out more about the MA in Educational Leadership then please contact Jacqui Harley (Research Co—ordinator) in the Training Centre on 0116 272 9137, or email jdh@beauchamp.org.uk
