Year 11 Academic Tutorial

Dear Parent/Carer

We would like to invite you and your son/daughter to a meeting with their tutor to discuss progress so far and set targets for the crucial remaining months of this academic year.

These meetings will take place on Thursday 8 March between 10.30am – 7.00pm. Your son/daughter will make the appointment with their tutor only, as parents had the opportunity to meet subject staff at the previous Parent and Student day. You will also have received full Year 11 reports during the Spring Term 2012.

The agenda for the meeting is:

• To review your son/daughter’s progress to date, including recent module results

• To discuss students’ post-16 aspirations

• For students to set targets where appropriate

To allow time for these important academic tutorials to take place all Year 11 lessons will be suspended. Although there will be no lessons work will be set by class teachers and can be accessed via Beauchamp Online Learning (BOLL).

The expectation is that students attend the parent/ teacher appointments with their parents. Please ensure that your son/daughter registers with the Key Stage Four team in the foyer to ensure that they get their attendance mark for the day.

This is a very important year for Year 10 students as they are preparing for GCSE exams and BTEC assessments in the next few months. It is important that they are well prepared for these events, and to that end we invite you to make appointments with tutors, subject teachers and ourselves during the Parent and Student Day on Thursday 8 March. This day replaces the traditional ‘Parents’ Evening’ and the purpose of these meetings is to:

Set targets for your son/daughter in subject areas

Identify appropriate help to enable students to reach their GCSE targets, including revision classes, mentoring and other personal programmes

Discuss progress that students have achieved so far on their courses

Appointments can be made by students for time slots between 10.30am and 7.00pm on the attached appointment sheet. Students are encouraged to attend appointments with parents and staff wherever possible.

All Year 10 students are required to attend a compulsory Religious Studies and Ethics trial examination on Thursday 8 March 2012. This will start at 9.00am, will last for 1 hour 30 minutes and will take place in the Sports Hall. This is essential practice and preparation for the GCSE short course exam which all Year 10 students will sit on Thursday 17th May 2012.

After this, all Year 10 students’ timetables will be suspended and resources to support students’ learning can be found on Beauchamp Online Learning (BOLL). Buses will be available to transport students to college as usual, and then return journeys will be made at 10.45am.

Looking forward to later in the academic year, parents will receive a full report during the Summer term.

Ensure you are registered with BeauchMail

Due to a technical fault we have lost some email addresses from BeauchMail. If you feel that you have not received any mail recently could you please either contact me as below to confirm your email address or alternatively complete and return the attached form to the student support centre.
If you have never previously registered for the BeauchMail service and would like to receive student reports and other information to support your child’s learning via email notifications please do the same.

Free School Meals Information

Data shows that families in the East Midlands are less likely to register their children for Free School Meals (FSM), even if they are entitled to them. Registering not only helps you but actually helps the school receive more funding! We receive additional funding – the Pupil Premium – for each pupil on roll registered as eligible.
The form is very simple and very easy to complete – it is available on our website – just follow the link About College – Information and scroll down to General Information. The link will take you straight to the form. If you would rather call into college please contact the Student Service Centre who will assist you in completing the form and send it off on your behalf.
The college operates a Smartcard system and the value of the meal will be added to your son or daughters card on a daily basis for them to spend in college.

The Robert Mitchell Distinguished Awards

Bob Mitchell served as Vice Principal of Beauchamp College for 14 years and retired in December 2011. This award, available to current students and alumni of Beauchamp College, is named in recognition of Bob Mitchell’s outstanding work for students, the college and the local community. Bob’s great interest in developing alumni relations and his inspiring work in supporting students and community/extended services as well as his own sporting profile and contributions to coaching at a national level are a tremendous legacy we wish to build upon.

The Robert Mitchell Distinguished Awards will be made to current and former students as a bursary award from the college’s Alumni Relations Department to aid their opportunities to travel, to access further and higher education and participate in local, national or international community service projects.

Creative Writing Competition

To all you budding writers out there!

‘Movellas’ – the online creative writing forum is running a competition on short stories and poems related to all things ‘Luuurve’. The competition is running for a couple of weeks and involves posting your entry and hoping that it will get comments and posts on it. The most popular entries then get judged and four winners will be chosen. The prizes are fantastic and it’s a great opportunity for anyone who would like to have their work read/looked at.
