Congratulations to Joseph Bullivant, Roy Weller, Sophie Norman and Nimai Varia, who took part in Lights Camera Action. They produced a video on compulsory first aid for students and came 1st and overall national winners. The judges said “the film was very high quality, entertaining, engaging and strong distinctive style”. The students have won film making kits, have been invited to Pinewood studios and Westminster Hall. Congratulations and very well done to the students involved.

Edward Garnier congratulated the media students of Beauchamp College who having submitted an entry to the Parliamentary Education Service (PES) Competition “Lights, Camera, Parliament,” have made it to the final six out of 100 initial entries. “Lights, Camera, Parliament” was set up by the PES who invited entrants to make a film making the case for a specific law to be introduced to Parliament.

The Beauchamp College entry suggests that a law should be introduced to ensure that all students under the age of 16 receive basic first aid education. It has been put together by Joseph Bullivant, Roy Weller, Sophie Norman and Nimai Varia. The film shows how knowledge of simple first aid could help in life threatening situations. All finalists including those of Beauchamp College are to be invited to Parliament on 14 May for an awards day, where students will present their film to a panel of MPs, Peers and industry professionals. The winning films will be screened to audiences in Westminster Hall in summer 2012, as part of Parliament’s Cultural Olympiad. The first prize is an exclusive trip to Pinewood Studios.
