We are proud of our comprehensive college and its history of providing opportunities for students to achieve their full potential. We believe in pursuing excellence and equity; every year our students prove they can compete successfully in all fields. Our students come from a range of cultural, ethnic, linguistic and faith backgrounds, which has greatly enriched our daily college experience as we learn together and from one another.
Our young people live in a complex and ever changing world. They will face both opportunities, as well as new and yet to be defined challenges. We want to play a part in preparing them to be confident, resilient, mature, aspirational and active young people. We believe that the focus on the development of these transferable skills will help in our determination to maintain and to raise even further the excellent standards that we have. Our students attain well and achieve through a broad, Welcome balanced and appropriate curriculum, opening many doors into higher and further education, training, or entry into the world of work.
The college day begins with tutor time which takes place every morning from 8.35am to 8.50am. Tutors play a central role in the pastoral system at college and are often students’ and parents’ first point of contact if they have issues or questions about their education. Tutors will eventually write comments on students’ reports, write references for students for college places or job applications, and so it is vital that they develop a good relationship with them.
Tutor groups are vertical at Beauchamp, meaning that they are made up of students from all four year groups at college. We believe that this vertical system can help our younger students to settle into life at Beauchamp and that older students can offer help and guidance to students who are new to the college.
The college is committed to developing citizens of the future and all students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills through a wide range of opportunities. These include House Captains, student governors, student research programmes and Insted – a team of student led observers. Beauchamp believes strongly in working in partnership with the students to drive forward improvement.
