Joe Gilford

Joe’s love for education began during his time at Beauchamp College, where English and History stood out as his favourite subjects. These early interests laid the foundation for a career dedicated to teaching and leadership in schools. 

Reflecting on his school years, Joe credits Beauchamp with providing strong support and encouragement. He recalls having fantastic teachers and a form tutor who consistently motivated him. The school played an important role in preparing him for university, offering revision sessions and guidance throughout the application process. This support really helped in shaping his future as an English teacher. 

After leaving Beauchamp, Joe pursued further education at the University of Leicester, earning a BA in English and a PGCE in Secondary English. He later completed an MA in Education at the University of Warwick, followed by the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). 

Joe’s career journey began at Beauchamp College itself, where he returned as a teacher in 2008. Over nearly a decade, he progressed to Assistant Principal before relocating to London. There, he served as Assistant Headteacher and then Deputy Headteacher at a secondary school in Twickenham. 

Joe later relocated to Newcastle to help launch a brand-new 11–16 school, first as Vice Principal and then Acting Principal. Today, Joe is back in London, serving as Headteacher at a school in North London. 

In his current role, Joe oversees all aspects of running a school — from staffing and finance to student wellbeing and community engagement. His weeks are busy and varied, but he finds the work deeply rewarding. Looking ahead, his aspiration is simple yet powerful: to be a successful Headteacher who makes a lasting impact. 

Joe’s journey highlights the power of great teaching, lifelong learning, and a deep commitment to shaping the future through education.
