GCSE Geography

Some of the topics that we cover will be new to you. Some you will have covered at KS3 so will have a good introductory understanding to some topics.

Assessment
Students will sit three examination papers at the end of the course. There is no longer any controlled assessment.

• Paper 1 will cover all PHYSICAL Geography topics.
• Paper 2 will cover all HUMAN Geography topics.
• Paper 3 will cover a mixture and is a SKILLS based examination.

Unit Content
We study Human and Physical Geography. Physical Geography includes: Global hazards, Sustaining ecosystems, Changing Climate and Distinctive Landscapes.

Human Geography includes the topics Urban Futures, UK in the 21st Century, Resource Reliance and Dynamic Development.

Students also have to go on a Physical and Human Geography fieldtrip in order to collect data. These skills will also be tested in the examination papers.

Extra Curricular Opportunities
Fieldwork will be a compulsory part of the course. Geography students often take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes.

Progression
Fieldwork is a compulsory part of the course. Students will have the opportunity to travel to the Peak District to collect data on the Physical Geography of the area.

There is also the opportunity for some of our students to go on a joint fieldtrip with A Level students to Iceland at the beginning of Year 11.
