Beauchamp Welcomes Secretary of State to Champion Online Safety

We were proud to welcome Peter Kyle - the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology - into our school in early July, as part of our continued commitment to promoting digital safety and wellbeing among our students.

The visit placed our school at the centre of an important national conversation, with Peter engaging directly with students, staff and parents to hear how we are equipping young people to navigate the online world with confidence and resilience.

During his time at our school, Peter observed a lively and engaging session delivered by the charity Childnet to a large group of Year 7 students. The workshop focused on digital wellbeing and online safety, encouraging thoughtful discussion and helping our young people develop the tools they need to manage their online presence positively and safely.

Peter then took part in a focused conversation with a group of Year 8 students, listening to their honest reflections and personal experiences of life online. Their insights offered a powerful reminder of the real and evolving challenges young people face in the digital age.

The visit concluded with a meeting between Peter and a group of parents from the Beauchamp community, where they discussed the Children’s Codes - guidelines designed to improve online protections for children and support their right to a safe digital environment.

It was an honour for us to host the Secretary of State and to demonstrate the proactive steps we are taking to ensure our students are informed, empowered and safe online.

As the Government continues to strengthen legislation such as the Online Safety Act, we are proud to play our part in leading the way in digital education and safeguarding.
