Deaf Awareness Day 2023

This term students attended a Deaf Awareness Day at Beauchamp College along with other hearing-impaired students from around the County.

Aaron and Luke from the National Deaf Children’s Society delivered informative sessions on ‘Deaf Identity, Technology and future choices’ with Isobel the British Sign Language interpreter.

The students learned about:

Dealing with challenging situations
Being a good advocate for their hearing needs
Understanding how the Equality Act 2010 protects them.
Having the confidence to ask for Reasonable Adjustments
Technology to help manage their life independently

Everybody enjoyed meeting Ellie the Hearing Dog for Deaf people who came with Aaron for the day.
