Eco-Club Earns Plastic-Free Accreditation
We are thrilled to reveal that, Beauchamp College recently received accreditation from Plastic Free Oadby who acknowledged the fantastic environmental work we have undertaken within our school. At a local awards ceremony held at the Brocks Hill Council Offices on Thursday 15th February, Tracey Sword – Eco-Club Lead – and Chris Swan – Chair of Governors – received the accreditation and networked with other local schools and businesses who also collaborate with Plastic Free Oadby; they were also joined by the Mayor of Oadby and members of the Oadby and Wigston council.
Beauchamp were invited to this event as recognition for the work the Eco-Club have done to reduce the school’s implementation of single-use plastics. Recently, they have introduced a ‘No Laminate’ policy and have removed plastic cutlery from the refectory; the club are also using recycled plastic bottles to build a greenhouse.
Their accreditation means that the school pledges to reduce the use of plastic and will continue to do so. Beauchamp representatives will now meet up with Plastic Free Oadby once a year to update them on their work and talk them through any initiatives.
A huge well done to the Eco-Club members and staff volunteers for making this happen!
