Harlem Globetrotters visit Beauchamp
We were thrilled to welcome two stars from the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters to Beauchamp College at the end of November, where they led an engaging and interactive session for our students. We were honoured to be the only UK school chosen for a visit during their tour, making the occasion truly special.As part of their UK tour, ‘Torch’ and ‘Bulldog’ arrived in their iconic kit and spoke to 200 students from across year groups, including those studying GCSE and A-level PE.
To a backdrop of audible gasps, the duo wowed the audience with a number of freestyle skills, showcasing lightning-fast tricks and dazzling ball control
Then it was time for the students to take centre stage. 10 brave volunteers were called to the front and tasked with impressing ‘Torch’ and ‘Bulldog’ with their own basketball skills. A further two then took part in a ‘spin-off,’ where they had to balance a spinning ball on the end of their finger for as long as possible, with a little help from the pros!
Before leaving, our guests shared important words of wisdom. ‘Torch’ urged students to chase their dreams and channel their passion into being the best they can be. ‘Bulldog’ reminded everyone that failure is part of learning and not to fear getting things wrong.
There was just enough time for students to grab signatures before our illustrious duo hit the road. They’ll be back in Leicester soon, performing at the Mattioli Arena in February as part of their 100 Year Tour.
