Students Immerse Themselves in Chinese Culture During Wuhan Visit

A group of our Mandarin students recently enjoyed an unforgettable educational visit to Wuhan, China, where they combined language learning with cultural experiences and international collaboration.

Based at Central China Normal University, students took part in a packed programme of activities designed to develop their Mandarin skills and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture. Language lessons covered topics including food, shopping, sports and hobbies, giving students the opportunity to build confidence and practise their speaking in real-life situations.

Beyond the classroom, students experienced a wide range of cultural activities. They learned the art of dumpling making, explored traditional tea-making techniques and tried their hand at Chinese martial arts. The visit also provided opportunities to work alongside Chinese students and pupils from other UK schools, helping to build friendships and cultural understanding.

A highlight of the trip was a visit to one of Hubei Province's leading schools, where students participated in a series of creative workshops. Activities included using artificial intelligence to design badges, working with 3D-printing pens, painting and tie-dyeing. These sessions encouraged collaboration and gave students an insight into different approaches to learning.

The group also explored some of Wuhan's most famous landmarks, including the Hubei Provincial Museum and the Yellow Crane Tower. A cruise along the Yangtze River provided a memorable opportunity to see the city's skyline illuminated at night.

Throughout the visit, Beauchamp students represented the college exceptionally well. Their enthusiasm for learning, willingness to embrace new experiences and commitment to improving their Mandarin were evident throughout the trip.

The experience provided a valuable opportunity to bring language learning to life and gave students a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture, history and daily life.
